The Caring Dads program is provided by Kids First. Caring Dads is an early intervention program developed in Canada by the University of Toronto and Changing Ways, for fathers who have physically abused, emotionally abused, or neglected their children, or exposed their children to family violence or who are deemed to be at high-risk for these behaviours. As a pilot and of the back of its Eastern state's success, Kids First Australia is bringing Caring Dads to the northern suburbs of Perth.
What will you be doing?
The primary purpose of the Family Safety Contact Practitioner is to provide support to the clients' family whilst the client is participating in the Caring Dad Program. The focus is to provide information about the program, including psych-education about family violence, offer risk assessment, safety planning, identify needs and offer referral to other services. This role plays an important part in clinical reviews, ensuring the voice of the client's partners, ex partners and children are considered.
In this role you'll be…
- Contact clients' families to provide program information, offer psychoeducation, risk assessment, safety planning, identify needs and offer referrals to other services for the duration of the 17-week program
- Ensure case notes are accurate and entered onto the SRS database in a timely manner.
- Raise any issues or concerns, particularly regarding risk and safety with the Caring Dads facilitators as soon as identified.
- Engage in Clinical Review sessions and Statewide Communities of Practice.
- Participate in and contribute to Caring Dads evaluation and monitoring activities, ensuring development of practice tools, techniques.
- Participate in the co-design and trailing of new innovative versions of the model for specific client groups.
- Provide high level expertise and practice consistency, quality assurance and facilitate access to appropriate specialist expertise to the group.
Thinking of applying? Here's what we're looking for:
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services, Counselling, Casework Practice, or a related field
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in client engagement and/or risk management with therapeutic Trauma informed practice context with people who use violence.
- Expertise in current family violence theories and practice frameworks.
- Knowledge of early childhood development, including trauma informed care and childhood attachment theory.
- Demonstrated capability to network and build productive relationships with others both inside and outside organisational boundaries.
- Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to identify risk/safety issues and respond effectively in whole of family and strength-based manner.
